The Greatest Senators Of All Time

The Ottawa Senators are the state’s biggest sporting side cramming in almost 20,000 fans into the Canadian Tire Center every week.

Over the years some real legends have passed through since they started life in 1992 and to this day you’ll still see some of the best hockey players on the planet.

Despite that, there’s not tons to shout about currently, with the Senators finishing bottom of the Atlantic Division this season with most sportsbooks writing them off next too.

When the season begins later this year most sportsbooks are giving them little chance, although you’ll find great odds on them even winning the Eastern Conference. You’ll find some good odds for backing them here (https://canadiansportsbetting.ca/bet365-sportsbook-review-canada/), and should they do what they haven’t since 2007, a new set of legends will be created.

But who are those who have already etched themselves into Senators folklore? We take a look at some of Ottowa’s greatest players since the franchise was revived in 1992…

Daniel Alfredsson

Swedish star Daniel Alfredsson was the Senators captain for 13 seasons and during his spell at the franchise he scored over 70 points in nine of his 17 seasons.

He took the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007 and holds the franchise record for most goals with 426 as well as the most assists and points scored.

He retired in 2014 after one final season with the Detroit Red Wings, but to this day still has his say when it comes to his beloved Senators, recently saying it might be time for owner Eugene Melnyk to sell the franchise.

Erik Karlsson

For a period it looked as though Alfredsson’s records could be broken by fellow Swede Erik Karlsson but it wasn’t to be as he left for the San Jose Sharks at the beginning of the season.

His presence has been missed and over the years he’s proved himself as one of the best on the NHL, setting a franchise and Swedish record of 82 points in a season in 2015/16.

His point scoring is lethal and in the 2017 playoffs he tallied the most points for a defenseman in the postseason for the Senators and even this year he’s smashing records for the Sharks.

He’ll go down as a Senators great, and is rumoured to be eyeing a return, so those records could well be back on.

Jason Spezza

Jason Spezza left for Dallas in 2014 after nine seasons with the Senators. The Center made a real impact and is only behind Alfredsson in the number of points, assists and total points scored.

The Canadian hit his peak between 2005 and 2008 where he scored 269 points in 211 games and was a key part of that side that went on to the Stanley Cup Finals.

He’s a two time All Star and will be forever remembered as a true hero at the Canadian Tire Center.

Wade Redden

At his peak, Wade Redden was comfortably one of the best defensemen in the NHL and throughout the late 1990s was a star man for the Senators.

He made 43 points or more in four seasons for the franchise including a career best of 50 back in 2002/03.

In total he played 838 games for the franchise with 410 points and is still the player with the best plus/minus at 159.
